I don't know if anyone has seen Showtime's series 'Dexter', based on Jeff Lindsay's Dexter books... but I see some striking similarities.
Similiarities
Monster? In the Dexter novels, as well as the TV show, Dexter refers to himself as a 'monster' countless times. Midnight Sun isn't out, but we've heard Edward say it a couple times....
Foster Dad! Although Carlisle and Harry are very different, they're both (in a sense) foster dads.... Sure, they have foster moms, too, but in both stories, the fathers are more potent.
Near-Death Experience Edward nearly died, but Carlisle changed him in time. Dexter, though he was just a hair further from dying, had a very disturbing event in his past... that I shall not go in to, to save you from spoilers. (I hate spoilers.)
No Sleep, No Dreams While Dexter does sleep, he says once that he rarely, if ever, dreams. "As a general rule."
'Good' Killers? Dexter kills murderers, and so did Edward, once, in his so-called 'rebelious teenager period'.
Dead Parents Maybe this fits in with the foster dad thing, but for both of them, the parents are dead.
Mask They both put up a facade. However, no one alive knows about Dexter's. While the vampires aren't (technically) alive, the werewolves know. Which brings us to our next point.
Sergeant Jacob? Doakes and Jacob aren't really alike in my ways, they do have some similarities... and they play a similar (while no love triangle is involved) role.
SPOILERS!!!! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN DEXTER/READ TWILIGHT!!! They both had girlfriends for awhile, and are now married to them. For both, they don't have too much romantic history. And they both now have children, whether step-children or biological.
Differences
'Human' Although Dexter sometimes says he's not human, by all genetic rules, he is. So this is an obvious one: Edward's a vampire, and Dexter is... not.
Methods Another obvious one. Dexter uses rubber sheets, plastic tarp, M99 (etorphine hydrocloride), gloves, trash bags, a scalpel, a mini-saw, hypodermic needles, plastic wrap, knives, duct-tape, etc., Edward simply uses his teeth. They both use their strength, though.
The Hunt They both refer to it as 'the hunt', but they have different methods. Edward, in his rebellious period, simply looked around for scumbags, while Dexter carefully plans everything out, laying out a 'killing room', setting out photos of his victim's victims, stalking them for some time, etc.
That's all I can think of for now....
Got any to add?
Sorry for the random crossover. I just couldn't ignore the striking similarities....
